Windows Media Player can see the iPod, but only as a hard disk, the section on the iPod where the music is stored is “hidden” and only iTunes knows how to get to it. They are the ones that noticed something wasn't quite right with how my vmtools had installed. This is a surprisingly common question for new iPod owners who are using Microsoft Windows on their PC, and the basic answer is that you must use Apple iTunes to get music onto your iPod. I learned all of this the hard way by spending way to many days and hours trying to figure this out, then finally I got ahold of support. (ok that might not be how you say it in technical terms but you should be able to get what I am saying.) The tools software is what fusion uses in the windows side of things to connect it to the mac os software. yes keep you windows xp up and running while you install this. In the fusion program / on the options bar that is on the top of the screen, Go to virtual machine then "install vmwar tools" click this and make sure your tools are installed. The second thing to look for and the most likely place things are messed up is in that on you windows side, the vmsoftware patch may not have installed correctly. I think the only way to upgrade to the newer version is to go directly to the vmfusion website and download it. one is semi-obvious make sure you are running the most current fusion (which now is 2.0.5) I don't think you can install the older version and then just check for updates on you computer.

I am running windows XP Professional (2002 with service pack 3) Help I am going crazy trying to figure this out! I was told that this might be happening because apple updated its itunes to keep it from working with other palm devices - has anyone heard about this or have any suggestions? I have re-installed fusion three times (uninstalling itunes / then re-installing VMfusion then re-installing itunes)Īlso - I found that when I connect my I-phone to other PC's it is recognized by itunes. (at least three times and in the correct order) I have installed and re-installed itunes (as well as all associated programs) according to the itunes web site. Yes the iphone shows up in my pc "my computer" as a photo device but still not in itunes I have tried to disconnect and reconnect the phone through / virtual machine / usb / connect apple iphone / (more times than I can count

So I can no longer sync my outlook contacts to it. I can no longer get Itunes (on windows xp) to recognize the iphone (it doesn't show up in the left hand column as a device). When I did this I was then able to sync my contacts and calendar to outlook. For the past year (until possibly this past May sometime?) I was able to connect my i-phone then sync my music through my mac itunes - then open up my windows xp in fusion go to virtual machine select usb and click on "connect iphone".
